Native plant benefits

Native plants are the ideal choice when planting perennials, shrubs, and trees because they:

  • Are adapted to thrive in our region’s soils and weather conditions.

  • Provide food for wildlife like caterpillars, as well as shelter for birds and other wildlife.

  • Have deep roots that slow down storm water.

  • Invite butterflies and other pollinators with pollen and nectar rewards.

  • Don’t need fertilizer or extra watering once established.

  • Serve as natural pest controls (and often deer) vs. using pesticides.
